Arts Events in Canterbury

This section is where members of Arts Canterbury can enter notices and information about arts events. Notices may be of regional or local  interest, and will usually be of such events as exhibitions, and other matters of public arts interest. This is a free service to members of Arts Canterbury. Notices may normally be placed up to two weeks prior to, and remain for the duration of, the event. In some cases Arts Canterbury will accept an advertisement from an organisation that is not a member of Arts Canterbury. Inquire from the administrator for terms and conditions.

DEANNA GRACIE:

ON THE SURFACE Group exhibition

Four new jewellery designs from Deanna Gracie's River and Shore series feature in the latest group exhibition at ConneXion Gallery in Christchurch this month. Each piece will include two intriguing textures - one invented by the Japanese called mokume-gane and the other discovered by chance by Deanna in her studio many years ago. Mokume-gane, meaning wood grain metal, is made from multiple layers of sterling silver and copper. The hammer effect discovered by Deanna is created from sterling silver sheet and then darkened by a process called patination. A pendant also features a gemstone called labradorite. " I love the way the light dances across this beautiful stone in such a playful way."
