Mark Larsen is a Kaiapoi-based artist and signwriter whose creative legacy spans fine art, sculpture, and public installations. A self-taught artist and experienced signwriter, Mark has operated his own signage business for nearly 30 years. He specialises in metal sculpture and fine art painting, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
His award-winning works include Kaiapoi’s iconic red letterbox, a bronze eel sculpture, and murals sadly lost in the 2010 earthquake. Mark’s contributions have earned him golds at the NZ Sign Industry Awards, the Resene Mural Masterpiece Award, a Silver at the 2009 Ellerslie Flower Show, and multiple People’s Choice Awards.
Influenced by nature and his ancestor, artist Samuel Horatio Moreton, Mark balances technical skill with creative instinct. His paintings capture realism; his sculptures embrace fluidity. He continues to exhibit nationally, mentor youth, and create meaningful art that resonates emotionally and visually.
