About
Don is best known for his landscapes in watercolour and oils.
He has held many successful solo exhibitions as well as alongside Bill Moore, Clark Esplin, Adrienne Pavelka, and many others in well-known galleries.
He loves to paint New Zealand subjects including wharf side scenes and shipping.
Many of his paintings have been done in Italy, Crete, France, Spain and the U.K., followed by exhibitions in this country.
Although rarely entering competitions, Don has won prizes and many accolades for the quality of his work.
He belongs to a Christchurch portrait painting group and does commissions.
He also enjoys making low relief textured abstract paintings.
His interest in vintage trams led him to write and illustrate “Hold Very Tight Please!” about Dunedin and its cable cars in the 1950s.
He has been filmed demonstrating watercolour painting for a You Tube episode of “Put Some Colour in your Life”.
He is a working member of Watercolour New Zealand, The Otago Art Society, and Arts Canterbury.
He has been invited by English “House and Garden” and a London Gallery to submit work.
