As a self-taught artist, oil painting has been my hobby for over 30 years and I have participated in group exhibitions since 1999.
I see myself as a visual storyteller with colours and form as the main characters. I prefer to work from photos and love the way a painting slowly comes to life on the canvas in front of me. Since every painting feels like unfamiliar territory, I spend a lot of time repainting areas and enjoy the challenge to respond to what I see and not to rely on what I know.
I don’t focus on any specific subject and paint landscapes, animals, portraits and flowers. The most challenging work for me is portraits, but capturing the likeness and essence of a person in a portrait gives me a great sense of achievement.
